In preparation for the 31st March and the unknown factors that may impact our business in respect to a ‘No Deal’ Brexit, we would like to share with you our current assessment of the impact this may have on our business and the actions we are taking to ensure we provide our customers with continuity of supply.
As a UK based business, we carry out all our manufacturing and packaging processes at our facility in Solihull, West Midlands. All our finished stock is also stored at this facility, so we have no risk associated with shipping customer orders from European warehousing.
Regarding availability of raw materials, we mainly purchase items from UK based businesses and will be working with these suppliers to ensure they have plans in place to ensure continuity of supply. For items sourced outside of the UK we utilise air freight for these deliveries which carry a lower risk of delay. The unknown factor that we have at present is the impact of losing access to European trade agreements with the counties of origin. We shall be monitoring this situation over the coming months.
In preparation for any delays in our supply chain due to Brexit and our forecasted increase in demand, we have placed additional orders on our raw material suppliers to ensure we have sufficient raw material stock to support a 6-week stock build. In parallel to this we are investing in our cleanroom capacity and shall be doubling our current capacity by the end of March.
We are also working with SGS our Notified Body to understand the implications of a ‘No Deal’ Brexit to ensure ongoing regulatory compliance. As this issue impacts all Medical Devices manufacturers in Europe, we have identified this as an area we cannot influence and as such will follow guidance from the MHRA and SGS. We are confident that contingency plans for ongoing regulatory compliance for products that carry the CE mark will be managed at governmental level.
As the coming weeks pass, we shall monitor the impact of Brexit to our business and keep our customers updated via our website on the activities we have in place.
